Soccer in the Streets Empowering Underserved Youth a case study
CHALLENGE
Soccer in the Streets is a not-for-profit that empowers underserved youth through sports-based training, character development, mentoring, and employability programs. The group’s Station Soccer program creates soccer pitches in Atlanta MARTA metro transit stations, making the sport more accessible. As the program expands, WM was asked to reach new audiences and showcase the mission of Soccer in the Streets.
OUR THINKING
Seeing is believing. When people see young athletes playing soccer in what used to be inaccessible concrete around transit hubs, they understand the benefits to the community.
OUR ACTION
WM has executed a number of media events from game events to two StationSoccer grand openings in Metro Atlanta. With active youngsters enjoying soccer as the backdrop, Soccer in the Streets leaders have grown interest and support and attracted new corporate partners.
RESULTS
WM has secured interviews and coverage from a range of national and Atlanta media including HBO “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel,” CNN International, CNN Headline News, Christian Science Monitor, The Atlantic, NPR/WABE and WSB-TV, delivering the client’s mission to an audience of more than two million to date.
